Staff Accountant

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Sunspear is looking for a Staff Accountant who can bring strength in accurate accounting, budgeting, and forecasting. As a Staff Accountant, you will play a crucial role in maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring compliance with accounting principles and standards, and supporting various financial activities within the organization. The ideal candidate should possess strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Key Responsibilities:

General Ledger Maintenance:

  • Prepare and maintain financial records, including general ledger entries.
  • Conduct regular audits to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Assist with month-end and year-end closing processes.

Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR):

  • Manage accounts payable and receivable transactions.
  • Ensure timely and accurate processing of invoices and payments.
  • Reconcile vendor statements and resolve discrepancies.

Cross-functional Collaboration:

  • Work closely with other departments to gather financial information and provide support as needed.
  • Act as liaison between accounting and operations departments to ensure that operational CRM is updated with relevant accounting information.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to address inquiries and resolve financial discrepancies.

Financial Reporting:

  • Prepare financial statements and reports, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
  • Assist with budgeting and forecasting activities.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and accounting standards.

Bank and Credit Card Reconciliations:

  • Reconcile bank statements and credit card transactions.
  • Investigate and resolve any discrepancies in a timely manner.

Inventory Management:

  • Track and manage inventory levels.
  • Conduct regular inventory audits and reconcile discrepancies.

Hawaii GET Filing:

  • Prepare and file Hawaii General Excise Tax (GET) returns.
  • Ensure compliance with state tax regulations.

Fixed Assets and Insurance:

  • Track and manage fixed assets, ensuring proper documentation and depreciation schedules.
  • Manage insurance requirements and ensure adequate coverage for company assets and operations.

Business Licenses:

  • Maintain and renew business licenses, permits, and certifications to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure the smooth operation of the accounting department.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associates degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Experience in construction accounting with job costing knowledge.
  • 3+ years of experience in accounting roles.
  • Proficient in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
  • Knowledge in QuickBooks, preferably QuickBooks Enterprise
  • Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and multi-task in a fast-paced environment while being self-motivated to learn new concepts.
