Federal Investment Tax Credit ITC
- The Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) of 2022 establishes and extends the federal Investment Tax Credit (ITC) for solar photovoltaic (PV) systems at a rate of 30% of the total PV system cost.
- In addition to the 30% ITC, the IRA establishes three different types of ITC “Adders”, which provide additional tax credits of up to 10% each: (1) Energy Community (2) Low-Income Community (3) Domestic Content.
Hawaii Renewable Energy Technologies Income Tax Credit (RETITC) – HRS §235-12.5
Originally enacted in 1976, the Hawaii Energy Tax Credits allow individuals or corporations to claim an income tax credit or refundable option:
- Credit: 35% of the cost of equipment and installation of a photovoltaic (PV) system, capped at $500,000.
- Refund: 24.5% of the cost of equipment and installation of a photovoltaic (PV) system, capped at $350,000.
